Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN A SUBSCRIPTION?

With a subscription, your child gets 4 classes per month for 90 minutes each. Hatch Coaches provide in-person support and mentorship, and mark all the coding projects you child submits. Additionally, your child will have unlimited at-home access to our Online Learning Platform during the program and for 3 months after classes end! Hatch accounts are also persistent across classes, so they can pick up their projects and challenges right where they left off.

HOW DO I KNOW MY CHILD IS LEARNING?

Our subscriptions allow you to create a parent account linked to your children’s accounts. You’ll have access to the Parent Dashboard, where you can view your children’s progress through the courses, the projects they’ve created, and the concepts they’ve learned. You can even share projects with your friends and family.

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO START HATCHING?

Anyone can Hatch! Most of our programs and camps are designed for kids ages 7-14, but you know your child best. Children who can read and understand cause-and-effect relationships are perfect candidates to start Hatching.

WHAT WILL MY CHILD LEARN THROUGH A HATCH PROGRAM?

600 projects, a Personal Portfolio, JavaScript, the fundamentals of computer science, loops, conditionals, arrays, variables, functions, and objects - these are just some of the skills taught at Hatch. Throw in the critical thinking, creative thinking, and collaboration that are woven throughout the Hatch curriculum, and you've got synergy: a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Hatch is a place where students form a community, have fun, and grow. They learn how to logically sequence events, create playable games, tell a good story, and model real situations. They also learn computational thinking by developing algorithmic and design thinking abilities.

DO YOU HAVE A SATISFACTION GUARANTEE OR A REFUND POLICY?

We believe in parent flexibility and customer happiness. If at any point in time you would like a refund for any reason, you can get a full refund for any program that has not been started or is less than 20% complete or a prorated refund for programs that are more than 20% complete.

HOW DOES IT WORK? (WEEKLY SESSIONS)

When you first purchase a subscription, you’ll pick a start and primary day and time slot (e.g. every Wednesday at 4:30 pm, starting Wednesday, Sept 7th). You can change your primary time slot any time you want. You attend 4 classes per month. We strongly believe in parent flexibility, so we offer unlimited changes. That way, if you have a soccer championship game, a piano recital or any other one-off activity, we’ll let you make up that class on any other day at any time.

HOW DOES IT WORK? (CAMPS)

Hatch offers camp programs during school holidays and breaks, including: Winter Break, March Break, summer, and PD Days. Camp programs can quickly take your child from beginner to advanced, or advanced to even more advanced, in just a one-week program. Following our self-paced, mastery-based philosophy, students enter camp at any level and are given individual, personalized instruction to make sure they get the most out of their week. Our camps offer both half-day and full-day options and also include a ‘maker-camp’ curriculum for hands-on experience with crafts and robots.

HOW DOES IT WORK? (SCHOOL PROGRAMS)

Hatch offers in-school programs as part of many after-school or lunchtime extra-curricular activities. We work with your school's administrative team to choose the best day for the program. We work at a 6:1 student to teacher ratio and provide laptops at the school's discretion. At the end of their first after-school or lunchtime program (8-12 weeks), students have a basic understanding of real programming fundamentals and finish the program with 12-20 unique projects. Students who show some mastery of concepts, are invited to complete a ‘Showcase Project’ - a self-directed portfolio piece unique to every student. We also offer in-curriculum programs which last 12-36 weeks and provide students with in-depth knowledge of programming and code.

CAN MY CHILDREN SHARE A SINGLE ACCOUNT?

Multiple students cannot share the same account because they will overwrite one another's work. We offer a special plan for multi-child families that allows you to register additional children at a reduced rate.

CAN I GIVE A SUBSCRIPTION AS A GIFT?

Yes - every student account can have unlimited sponsors. These can be parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or anyone else, even a baseball coach or devoted teacher. One of the sponsors has to pay for the program, and they can do so as a gift.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE MORE THAN TWO CHILDREN WHO WANT A SUBSCRIPTION TO HATCH?

All siblings after the first child get a discount at Hatch. Our registration page will automatically accommodate additional children from the same family.

ONCE I BUY A SUBSCRIPTION, HOW SHOULD MY CHILD GET STARTED?

The next step is to attend Hatch! Your child just needs to bring her or his imagination and creativity.

HOW DOES MY CHILD PROGRESS THROUGH HATCH’s CURRICULUM?

Hatch has a library of 600 projects ranging from the very simple to the very challenging. With every completed project at Hatch, students move in the direction of real mastery, and more interesting projects. With guidance from our Coaches, students find the happy medium where optimal learning happens. They move on to harder challenges when they're ready - neither too slowly, nor too quickly.
