Talking to my kid(s) about the program
Hatch Parents are crucial to the Hatch community. By taking the time to understand what makes Hatch special and what students are expected to do, they help build a learning environment where friendship is the main currency, the entrepreneurial spirit is fostered, the growth mindset nourished, and self-paced, mastery-based learning is embraced. Here are a few ways to meaninfully connect with, engage with, and support your child at Hatch:
- 1. Talk to your child about the Hatch Values and explain the importance of the Coder's Code. Embrace these things yourself and model them.
- 2. Have your child show off his or her projects just so you can see their creativity and imagination at work.
- 3. You can ask her or him about the following 5 terms: variables, functions, conditionals, loops, and arrays. Ask to know what these terms mean and how they work. As kids learn at Hatch, they will gain mastery and be able to speak intelligently on these topics. If you talk to them and they don’t know, tell them to speak to their Coach so they can better understand the vocabulary of coding.
- 4. Don't hesitate to approach our Coaches with questions or concerns.
