Hatch Alpha is a program that teaches kids how to code, providing strong mentorship and coaching to build coding expertise. Children learn how to solve difficult problems while working as a team, while building a portfolio of programs they create for friends, family and future job interviews. In Alpha, students solve more left-brained, logical, analytical problems. The problems are based on mathematical reasoning and the emphasis is to learn algorithmic thinking and solve problems conceptually at a very high level, in order to solve more challenging problems with code over time.

Coding is becoming more ingrained in our technology-driven society, and a Hatch Alpha Project is designed to be shining star in your child’s portfolio. Taking over two months to complete, these projects will demonstrate your child’s proficiency in learning different programming skills with Basic Python and Advanced Python, essentially setting the foundation for further coding structures.

We also offer healthy competition for our students, enrolling them in the Canadian Coding Competition. We believe that competitive computing is an essential part of the Alpha program. Although competing is optional, preparation is mandatory.

Self-paced learning means students work at their own pace with the understanding that they have. Each student will be working to master different concepts at different points of time. Although the students may all start at the same place, the method that they approach mastery of each topic and the pace at which they hit each milestone is completely individual.

Alpha is for students who have an insatiable "coding spark" and want a challenge. If your child won't stop coding, then Alpha is right for them. We teach students how to work together towards a common goal for a project. The best way to figure out if your child is right for Alpha is to book an interview with Karen Leckie, Director of Hatch Alpha. In this dedicated time, the student, together with their parents, discuss the interests, challenges and next steps with regard to suitability for Alpha. While there is no magic ingredient, there are certain elements that we really look for to make sure it is a good fit.  If after the interview you’re still not sure, your child  can try Alpha for a month. If it is still not a good fit, then we will issue a 100% refund of the class tuition, or see if Hatch Prime might be a better fit.
